At quality dental, all fillings are made to match the colour of your surrounding teeth. We use either porcelain inlays or composite resin restorations. These procedures are necessary if teeth have suffered from small sections of lost tooth due to decay or fracture.
Like porcelain crowns, Porcelain Inlays are made of a material that mimics natural tooth enamel in durability and aesthetics. When a large volume of tooth is missing after decay or fracture, porcelain inlays are used to restore the tooth to its near original strength, look and feel. A porcelain inlay also works to protect a hollow, broken down tooth from ageing and is therefore considered a long term fix.
Composite resin restorations are also tooth coloured and aesthetic. They are made of a shiny softer plastic and are therefore placed more quickly, and are less costly than Porcelain Inlays. When only a small volume of tooth is missing, after decay or trauma, composite resin is a long term fix, and porcelain is not required. Composite is sometimes also used to replace large volumes of missing tooth (like a porcelain inlay), to reduce costs. In this situation, a composite resin restoration is a short – medium term fix, and a porcelain inlay or crown is placed at a later time.
